HONOLULU (AP) - A jury has acquitted a 28-year-old Pearl City man charged with murder in a shooting death four years ago in Chinatown.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the state jury Wednesday reached a not guilty verdict in the trial of 28-year-old Zorro Rye.
He was charged in the March 28, 2009, shooting death of Joseph Peneueta.
Rye's cousin was a co-defendant. Twenty-5-year-old Iosefa Pasene was acquitted of terroristic threatening. He had been charged with pointing a gun at another person on the sidewalk moments before the shooting.
The jury could not reach a verdict on murder and firearm charges against Pasene and Circuit Judge Rom Trader declared a mistrial.
It's the second mistrial for Pasene.
Defense attorney Thomas Otake says he will seek dismiss of the remaining charges.
