Kamehameha Hwy. reopened in Wahiawa after brush fire

WAHIAWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters have contained a large brush fire near Wahiawa Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials say the wildfire is about 50 acres in size and was reported around 2:40 p.m. It was contained at 4:30 p.m., and officlas say the fire should be fully out by 7:30 p.m.

No information has been released about how the fire may have sparked. A portion of Kamehameha Highway was closed while firefighters battled the flames.

No homes or structures were threatned due to the fire.

The area that caught fire is a former agriculture field, overgrown with brush.
