Big Island mayor joins other US mayors in Taiwan

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi is in Taiwan to promote business, agricultural, educational and cultural ties.

He's in Taiwan this week with eight other mayors from California, Illinois, Tennessee, Texas, Connecticut, Wyoming and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Kenoi's office says the Republic of China is hosting the mayors and providing air and hotel accommodations.

The county has had a sister-city relationship with Taiwan's Haulian county since 1971.

County Managing Director Wally Lau is acting mayor until Kenoi returns on Friday.
