HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Big Island man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly attacking his 24-year-old son with a machete in Mountain View, according to police.
Police officials say Jonathan Rodrigues Sr. was taken into custody at around 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, nearly 12 hours after the alleged incident occurred.
When police officers arrived at the scene around 8:30 p.m. Monday, they reported seeing the man's injured son running into a nearby forest. He came out at around 11 p.m. with substantial bodily injuries, authorities say, and was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
After his release, police arrested him on two unrelated bench warrants for contempt of court.
Police officers remained at the scene until the next morning, when Rodrigues Sr. reportedly emerged from the house holding an air rifle.
Rodrigues Sr. was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault for the domestic incident and first-degree terroristic threatening for the incident with the weapon.
