HANAKAPIAI, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 33-year-old visitor from Seattle, Washington was rescued Saturday after sustaining an injury while hiking along the Hanakâpî'ai Trail on Kauai.
At around 5 p.m. Saturday, rescuers were notified of a hiker with a possible broken ankle near Hanakâpî'ai Falls. Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 located the man roughly ¼-mile from the falls and landed in a nearby landing zone at approximately 5:30 p.m.
A rescue specialist was short-hauled to the injured hiker and airlifted him back to the landing zone where he was loaded in the helicopter and flown to Lîhu'e Airport.
Awaiting medics then transported the man to Wilcox Hospital.
