AIEA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

All but one of the H-1 Freeway's westbound lanes were closed just after the Aiea Heights overpass until 7 p.m. Saturday.

The spill happened shortly before 3 p.m. The city and county traffic management center camera in the area showed debris in the three middle lanes, with traffic down to only the left-hand lane.

Police reported it was some kind of asphalt or concrete mixture, but a traffic alert described it as soil.

The Honolulu Fire Department said crews were trying to get rid of the spill before it dries. Up to four engine companies, a ladder company and a tanker responded to the scene, along with Freeway Service Patrol vehicles.
