Maui shark attack victim on life support

WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hospital officials say that a German tourist attacked by a shark last week on Maui is on life support.

Jana Lutteropp was snorkeling about 75 yards off shore at Palauea Beach when she was attacked.

She was taken to the emergency room at Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

"She is on full life support and she remains in very critical condition. The family requests that you give them their privacy during this very difficult time," said Carol Clark, Director of Communications and Community Relations at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Officials say Lutteropp's arm was severed in the attack which happened on Wednesday, August 14.
