Hundreds of potential buyers waited in line to buy at the latest Kakaako highrise.

Developer A&B Properties began sales today at The Collection, a 43-story tower at the former Comp USA site.

"We've had almost 300 people come through," said Rick Stack, A&B senior vice president.

"I think our earliest arrival yesterday morning was at 4 a.m."

Palolo resident James Kaneshiro was among those in line.

"I've been checking the paper every day and as soon as I saw the announcement in the paper, I got in here at 5 o'clock in the morning," said Kaneshiro.

The Collection will have nearly 400-units. Prices start in the mid-$300,000 range for one-bedroom apartments. Two-bedroom units will sell for about $550,000 while three-bedroom units sell for about $750,000.

Realtor Jaymes Song showed up at 5 a.m. yesterday on behalf of three of his clients. He says buyers like project's proximity to downtown.

"They are excited that something new is being built in this area close to downtown," he said.

Big Island resident John Siebert added: "It's got the attraction of being close to Waikiki and being close to Chinatown and downtown."

A&B still needs to get final permits but it hopes to begin construction next year and complete the project by 2016.
