Maui authorities are investigating the death of an unidentified elderly man at Tavares Bay near Paia.

Officials found the 69-year-old Haiku man face down in the shorebreak at about 11 a.m. Friday.

Emergency crews tried CPR to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. An initial investigation showed no signs of foul play as a result of the man's death.
