Oahu teacher pleads guilty to meth trafficking

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A special education teacher at Leilehua High School has pleaded guilty to trafficking crystal methamphetamine.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that Janice Fontes entered the plea on Thursday in federal court.

Prosecutors say she sent drug money to suppliers in California and gave them an address in Hawaii to send the drugs to. In exchange, she received around $2,500 dolalrs per month, which Fontes says she needed to pay bills and rent.

The 51-year-old woman will be sentenced in November.
