No tsunami after 6.8 quake in New Zealand

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has occurred near Wellington, New Zealand, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was at a depth of 6.6 miles.

The earthquake was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports, "Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii. Repeat. A destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
