PUPUKEA (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A fire destroyed a two-story home on Oahu's North Shore on Thursday, displacing nine people and damaging three vehicles.

The fire, which broke out just after midnight on Thursday morning on Alapio Road in Pupukea, had completely engulfed the home by the time firefighters arrived on scene.

Firefighters say they began a defensive attack using master streams while accounting for all occupants of the house. They had brought the fire under control by 12:46 a.m., within 30 minutes of arrival.

The home's 52 year old renter, Mitzi Bokolas, first saw the flames. She said she and her husband, 43, and three children got out of the house safely along with three family friends and another tenant.

None of the occupants of the house were injured during the fire.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross responded to the fire, meeting with affected residents to ensure their immediate emergency needs for food, shelter and clothing were met.

Cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimate not available at this time.
