HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a Red Flag Warning until 6 p.m. Friday.

Dry conditions and strong trade winds have created red flag conditions for leeward areas.

  • Affected area: mainly leeward areas of Niihau, Kauai. Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and the Big Island.

  • Winds: 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts.

  • Relative humidity: 40 to 45 percent.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical Fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme Fire behavior. A Red Flag Warning does not predict new fire starts.
