Hawaii Island police charged a Puna man and his son in connection with what started as a case of domestic abuse in Pahoa Tuesday.

Puna patrol officers responded to the abuse report on Saturday, August 10, where the 48-year-old suspect Christopher Thomas Gonsalves of Pahoa struck and threatened an officer and then fled the scene. Detectives also arrested 21-year-old Gordon A.E. Gonsalves of Pahoa Tuesday morning and charged him at 1:30 p.m. with second-degree hindering prosecution for using force against an officer to allow his father to get away. His bail was set at $500.

Both men are being held at the cellblock pending their initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday, August 14.
