HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Researchers on the Big Island are honoring some out of this world recipes.
Back in January, they asked the public to submit meal ideas that could be consumed in space.
It's all part of a NASA-funded project to come up with just the right foods to be used on missions to the Moon or Mars.
Participants of the 4-month project cooked up the recipes and they decided the number one choice for a main dish was spam fried rice!
They picked a 'no-crust quiche muffin' as their favorite breakfast choice and for dessert? A creation called 'dark matter cake.' It's a variation on a chocolate cupcake.
All of the winning recipe contestants will be notified via email.
Want to try whipping up any of the dishes yourself?
