WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Two hikers stranded in Iao Valley on Maui overnight were rescued this morning.

They were located at 6:50 a.m. approximately one and a half miles into the trail and were soon airlifted out of the valley by Maui Fire Department's Air-1 helicopter.

The pair was "very cold" but did not suffer any injuries.

A Maui Fire Department spokesperson said the father and son from Fort Worth, Tex. went hiking in the valley at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon to find a pond they had heard about. They were taken to the area by the man's wife who remained in the car.

Firefighters said the two did not have cell phones or flashlights but did have personal flotation devices. She reported the two missing at around 6:30 p.m. after they did not return.

Five personnel hiked in but called off the search at 8:20 p.m. last night due to weather conditions. Maui Fire Department's Air-1 helicopter was also deployed but turned back also due to weather conditions.

The Maui Police Department and Department of Land and Natural Resources assisted with the rescue.
