Senators look into offensive coordinator dismissal

HONOLULU (AP) - The chairman of the state Senate Higher Education Committee is looking into the University of Hawaii's dismissal of the football team's offensive coordinator.

Sen. Brian Taniguchi told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser ( ) Senate President Donna Mercado Kim asked him to look into it.

Senate leadership is concerned the situation is another misstep by the school and they believe they need to monitor the situation.

Taniguchi says he's less likely to do a full-fledged investigation as more details about Aaron Price's removal emerge.

Football coach Norm Chow announced Price's dismissal last week at the start of fall practice. He didn't provide details or a reason for Price's departure.

The Senate's Special Committee on Accountability chaired by Kim has sharply criticized UH officials for a history of "buying out" coaches and administrators.
