HONOLULU (AP) - An Oahu grand jury has issued a manslaughter indictment for a driver suspected of slamming a pickup truck into a Honolulu Police Department patrol car and killing an officer.
The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports the grand jury on Tuesday indicted Scott Frederick Ebert in the Jan. 21, 2012, death of 28-year-old Officer Garret Davis.
Davis had stopped in the left, eastbound lane of the H-1 freeway to help a motorist with a flat tire. His patrol car's blue lights were turned on.
He was calling for assistance from his car when a pickup driven by Ebert struck it from behind. The patrol car burst into flames.
Prosecutor Chastity Imamura says witnesses reported seeing Ebert's truck at high speeds before the crash.
