KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Dead ducks are causing quite a stir in Kailua.
No fewer than eight white ducks were found dead in Kawainui Park in Kailua Sunday night. Monday morning, they were still there. Hawaii News Now was on scene when a representative from Honolulu Parks and Recreation came by to take photographs of the carcasses.
The representative was going to distribute the photos via email to determine jurisdiction on removing the dead ducks from the stream.
By mid-afternoon, Hawaii News Now received a call from the individual, stating it was state land, and hence the state's responsibility.
However, the Department of Land and Natural Resources rebutted, and said it was a City and County issue.
Later in the afternoon, a representative from the City and County of Honolulu called back, saying jurisdiction had been determined to be theirs, and that a crew from the Department of Facility Maintenance removed the duck carcasses.
