ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany State is a little over a month away from opening their 2013 campaign against North Greenville.

On Friday, ASU head coach Mike White discussed the upcoming season with Golden Ram fans and boosters at the team's annual preseason kickoff banquet.

On the minds of many is transfer QB Frank Rivers, who is joining the Golden Rams after transferring from Grambling State this offseaso.

White says he's been impressed with the junior QB from what he's seen so far.

"He's a good football player that has good smarts. He picks up well," says White. "He has good report with his teammates, and they've kind of embraced him, so that's good. He's been working hard with his receivers. So far, so good."

Many expect Rivers to be the starter under center this fall, but White wouldn't go as far to say where he will be on the depth chart.

"I don't know," White says. "We'll see when all the competition comes out."

Whoever steps in at QB will be replacing David Kooi and Keenan Grissett, who graduated after combining for seven TDs in 2012.
