Roosevelt senior achieves perfect ACT score

HONOLULU (AP) - A Roosevelt High School senior has earned a perfect score on a national college admissions exam.

Gillian Desmond is the only student in Hawaii to score a perfect 36 on the ACT test this year. It's a feat only 781 students out of more than 1.66 million achieved last year.

The standardized test covers English, reading, math and science. It's accepted by all major U.S. colleges.

The Hawaii Department of Education is touting Desmond's achievement as a testament to the rigors of the state's public schools. She also attended Nuuanu Elementary and Kawananakoa Middle schools.

Her grade point average is 4.4 and she received the highest possible score of 5 on Advanced Placement exams in chemistry, statistics and English.

She is considering studying math or science in college.
