HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Heading into the season, Baldwin linebacker Jordan Hoiem was considered one of the state's top recruits.

A few months ago, he verbally committed to Oregon and was expected to have a solid senior year, but he's chosen to de-commit from the Ducks and stop playing football entirely.

Multiple recruiting outlets rated him as Hawaii's number one outside linebacker.

He's reportedly chosen to stop playing because of pressure and has lost a passion for the sport.

In addition to Oregon, Hoiem also had offers from Hawaii, UNLV and Nevada.

Keneke Pacheco, Baldwin's head football coach, said he wasn't shocked when he heard the news.

"This is something he's been weighed down with for quite some time now," Pacheco said in a phone interview.  "As a head coach, I'm sorry that he's walking away from the game, but that's something that's between him and his family and like I said, we have to respect that."

Hoeim has played football at Baldwin since his freshman year.

It's not yet known where he'll be attending college.
