Posted: Updated:

University of Hawai‘i head baseball coach Mike Trapasso announced the hiring of Carl Fraticelli as assistant coach. Fraticelli has been on the UH staff for three years as a volunteer assistant and now assumes a full-time position on the coaching staff.

"We're very happy to announce Carl Fraticelli as our new assistant," said Trapasso. "His body of work is very impressive and speaks for itself. He's been a head coach at two junior colleges, a full-time professional scout, and a head coach at the high school level. He was a successful player at Loyola Marymount, playing in the College World Series and later professionally in the Minnesota Twins organization. His knowledge and experience make him a great asset to our program."

Fraticelli has spent 21 years as a baseball coach in some capacity, most recently as the head coach of the Hawai‘i Ali‘is in the Hawai‘i Collegiate Baseball League since 2006. He also was the head coach at Diablo Valley College and Los Medanos College earlier in his coaching career and spent a year as an area scout for the Oakland Athletics.

The Kalaheo High School graduate played his collegiate baseball at Loyola Marymount, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Fraticelli was a two-time all-West Coast Conference honoree, helping the team to a College World Series appearance in 1986 and another NCAA regional appearance in 1988. Fraticelli was drafted in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Minnesota Twins and would play for three years in the California League.

Following his playing career, Fraticelli was the head coach at Waimea High School on Kaua‘i, earning league Coach of the Year honors three times. He then was an assistant coach at the City College of San Francisco and Laney College before landing the head coaching position at Los Medanos.

Fraticelli earned his master's degree at St. Mary's College and is a 1984 inductee of the Nissan Hawai‘i High School Hall of Honor.
