Man dies in snorkeling accident on Maui

A man died while snorkeling in waters off Maui Saturday while visiting with his family from Benicia, California.

At about 9:55 a.m. Saturday, bystanders reported that a man had been pulled unconscious from the waters fronting Black Rock in Kaanapali.

An investigation reveals that the man, 50-year-old Michael Taugher, was snorkeling with members of his family in the waters surrounding Black Rock.

The remaining members of his family returned to shore, but could not find Taugher. The 50-year-old was later found unresponsive in the water.

Ambulance and fire crews arrived a short time later and tried to revive Taugher, but attempts were unsuccessful and he later died.

The investigation revealed no signs of criminal activity surrounding Taugher's death.
