Expected crowd forces venue change for GMO hearing

LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The turnout for a hearing on a controversial GMO bill is expected to be so large enough that officials have decided to move it to a larger venue.

The bill drew large crowds when it was first introduced in June. Its sponsor, Councilman Gary Hooser, is proposing a moratorium on farming genetically modified organisms, pending further study.

The bill would also require companies to tell the public what chemicals are in the pesticides they are using.

The hearing, original scheduled for next Wednesday at Kauai Community College, will now take place at the Veteran's Center in Lihue.
