A Kaneohe woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition after a home on Kalenakai Place broke into flames early Thursday morning.
Honolulu Fire Department crews responded to reports of flames at 2 a.m., and reported the fire to be under control by about 2:17 a.m. An HFD spokesperson says 5 engines and 35 firefighters helped battle the two alarm fire.
Captain Terry Seelig told Hawaii News Now that the building's second flood sustained heavy fire damage, with the first floor taking almost no damage from the flames but suffering water damage.
Two people, the home's resident and a guest, were reportedly inside when the house burst into flames. Both were outside when firefighters arrived, and one woman, believed to be in her sixties, was taken to the hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition with burn injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though authorities say they are focusing on one of the upstairs bedrooms as a possible source of the flames.
Damage to the home has been estimated at around $220,000 dollars.
