HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Honolulu police have re-opened the H-3 Harano Tunnel in the eastbound direction after a six-car accident that occurred Monday afternoon.
Police completely closed the Harano Tunnel for several hours after the accident which took place just after 5 p.m.
According to Emergency Medical Services, two patients refused treatment or transportation, and three patients were transported to a hospital.
Two of those patients are reported to be in stable condition while the third, a 33-year-old man, is in serious condition.
The Department of Transportation says the multi-car accident was right after the entrance to the Harano Tunnel. Police were stopping cars from being sent up the H-3 Freeway and re-routed them back down.
A car fire was involved in the crash, but was quickly extinguished. A man driving a van involved in the crash which was transporting flammable tanks says the fire started in the engine, and not from one of the tanks being compromised.
