Man dies after being run over while lying on Pearl City street

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 33-year-old man who was reportedly lying in the middle of the road in Pacific Palisades has died after being run over by a car, according to a Honolulu Police Department official.

Paramedics say the accident happened in the vicinity of 2463 Auhuhu St. at around 12:47 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Police officials say a neighbor in a two story house nearby called police to tell them that the man, who appeared to have been drinking, was lying in the middle of the road. The man was reportedly wearing black clothing, which may have made him more difficult to see.

The neighbor says she was reportedly on the phone with police when the driver of a silver Toyota sedan, identified as a 29-year-old male, came around the corner and hit the man.

Police investigators have opened a 3rd degree negligent homicide investigation, a misdemeanor offense, but said on Wednesday they did not believe negligence was involved on the part of the driver, who pulled over immediately after the crash and was believed to have been not speeding or drinking.
