HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii harbor officials are looking into a request to staff ocean recreation sites on weekends.
Harbor agents are on duty Monday through Friday. Kaneohe resident Loren Lasher is collecting signatures to show state officials it's necessary to have harbor masters and agents on duty on the weekends.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Monday state harbor officials say they're looking into the idea.
Lasher says the most of Hawaii's recreation involves the water and most of it happens on the weekends.
The Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation administers programs, manages facilities, issues permits and other duties. However, harbor offices aren't required to keep first-aid kits and boaters are responsible for their own first-aid materials.
