UPDATE at 7:50 a.m. on Monday:
The fire has been called extinguished at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Monday, according to Lee Mainaga of the Maui County Fire Department. The fire was 100% contained by around 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Original Story:
A wildfire on Maui scorched at least 65 acres in Kaupo Saturday.

The flames grew from affecting 45 acres to 65 acres and disrupted traffic on Piilani Highway on the Ulupalakua side of Manawainui Gulch.

The blaze sparked at about 3 p.m. and as of Saturday night was 50 percent contained. Firefighting was suspended overnight due to hazardous terrain, but crews monitored the area throughout the night.

Helicopters returned at first light Sunday morning to find that the brush fire did not grow overnight. It was declared 80 percent contained at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

No injuries were reported and no building are in danger.
