Suspect charged in deadly stabbing near Kailua District Park

Suspect: Brian T. Kim Suspect: Brian T. Kim
KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu police have opened a homicide investigation after a man in his fifties reportedly died after being stabbed multiple times in Kailua, according to officials.

Police arrested 48-year-old Brian T. Kim for the deadly stabbing. He appears to be homeless. He was charged Saturday with second-degree murder and is being held on $250,000 bail.

The incident happened at the Kailua District Park gym at around 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning. The victim was taken to the Castle Medical Center, where he later died.

Police say they have recovered a weapon, but are not able to confirm that it is the weapon that was used in the stabbing.

Investigators say the stabbing stemmed from an argument between the suspect and the victim. Neither man has a local address, police say, but both are believed to be homeless.

Sources at the scene say that there are what appear to be homeless encampments at the park near where the stabbing took place.
