WASHINGTON, D.C. (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Children from around the country were invited to the White House Tuesday for the second annual Kids State Dinner.

President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to the event and couldn't resist saying hello to another Hawaii native, 8-year-old Eleanor Cowell.

"How are you? Where'd you go to school?" the President asked.

After learning that young Cowell attends Punahou, he said, "Punahou! Buff ‘n Blue – that's my high school!  Tell everybody I said hi."

Cowell is Hawaii's winner in First Lady Michelle Obama's annual Healthy Lunchtime Challenge. She created a curried chicken salad with a side dish of fruits she calls "The Taste of the Tropics."

The challenge is an extension of the First Lady's "Let's Move!" campaign to combat childhood obesity.
