KANEOHE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hawaii educator has received a high honor. Sheena Alaiasa, principal at King Intermediate School, has been named one of three finalists for the national middle school principal of the year.
Alaiasa is credited with turning test scores around at the Kaneohe school once nicknamed the "King Zoo" because many students there were often disruptive.
As a finalist in the national competition, Alaiasa earned a $1,500 grant for King Intermediate School. If she takes the top honor, the school will collect another $3,500.
