Happy Monday! Here's what's happening on Sunrise this morning.
Christopher Deedy Murder Trial Officially Begins
The prosecution and defense will present opening statements today starting at 10am. Christopher Deedy was an off-duty State Department Special Agent who was in Honolulu for APEC. His defense is arguing that he acted in self-defense when he shot Kollin Elderts in a McDonald's on Kuhio Avenue in November of 2011. Ramsay Wharton will be live at court with the latest.
Asiana Crash Landing Revelations
Two days after the Asiana flight crash landed at San Francisco International Airport, new revelations are coming to light. The pilot at the controls of the Asiana flight was a veteran, but an Asiana spokesman said he had only flown the Boeing 777 nine times. Also, this was the first time he had landed a 777 at SFO. NTSB chair Deborah Hersman said all scenarios are still on the table, but investigators are looking into the approach, which may have been too slow. We'll have latest on the investigation and tell you about one flight crew member who is being hailed a hero.
Ask The Mayor
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell is joining us at 6:45 a.m. to answer questions from our viewers. We'll ask him whether he plans to raise taxes in order to pay for raises to the Honolulu police officers and how he plans to fix the roads that were just rated the worst in the nation. You can submit your questions for the mayor on our Hawaii News Now Facebook page.
All that and more, plus traffic and weather every ten minutes!
