Fire crews contain two-alarm Ewa building fire

EWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Crews from the Honolulu Fire Department were able to contain a two-alarm building fire on Kela Place in Ewa Saturday afternoon.

Fire officials say a unit in a duplex home at The Waterfront at Puuloa caught fire around 2:30 p.m., sending smoke into the air that could be seen for miles.

Two people were home when the fire started, and both escaped. Their dog did not make it out of the building.

Crews were able to put the fire out in about an hour. Damage is estimated to be at $350,000.

Red Cross volunteers are meeting with the affected residents to ensure their immediate emergency needs are met.
