Tourist who died while snorkeling off Na Pali Coast identified

Kauai police have identified Wednesday's drowning victim as Manuel Benegas, age 48 of Brentwood, TN.

A Tennessee man was found unresponsive Wednesday afternoon while snorkeling in waters off Nualolo Kai along the Na Pali Coast on Kauai.

The 48-year-old man was part of charter group that had stopped in the area to allow patrons to swim and snorkel. According to reports, fellow swimmers found the man in distress at around 2:40 p.m. and brought him to shore.

Bystanders performed CPR until Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. Rescuers then placed the man into a Stokes litter and transported him to Waimea Canyon Ball Park. Awaiting medics then transferred him to Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not yet released the man's identity.

This is Kaua'i's twelfth drowning so far this year.

    The new accusation came just a few hours after negotiators had reached an agreement to hold a public hearing Thursday for Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, who accuses him of sexually assaulting her at a party when they were teenagers.
