Penn is No. 1 according to Silva

Posted: Updated:

(HawaiiNewsNow) - UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has never lost a fight in the UFC but even he doesn't put himself atop the list of all time great fighters to enter the octagon.

During a teleconference to promote UFC 162, Silva was asked who he regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighters.

That distinction -- according to Silva -- belongs to Hawaii's own B.J. Penn.

Penn (16-9-2) is one of only two multi-division champions in UFC history, holding onto the lightweight and welterweight championships at one point.

Rounding out Silva's top four were:"Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell and Royce Gracie."

As for Penn, the Hilo native hasn't fought since a loss against Rory MacDonald on December 8th of 2012. Since then, sources close to Penn say he has been training and will decide in the next couple of months as to whether he will fight again or walk away from the octagon.
