Man sentenced for robbing 4 Honolulu businesses

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Bob De La Rosa, 31, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison on Wednesday for robbing four Honolulu businesses in the fall of 2012.

In previously pleading guilty, De La Rosa had admitted to using a replica handgun to obtain property from four businesses engaged in interstate commerce.

United States Attorney Florence T. Nakakuni said that according to information produced in court, from August 19, 2012, to November 4, 2012, De La Rosa showed a replica handgun to employees of four businesses on four separate occasions in demanding oxycodone from the first business and money on the three subsequent robberies.

De La Rosa took 300 oxycodone pills from a Walgreens pharmacy on Kapiolani Boulevard; $395 in cash from Rix Island Wear on Ala Moana Boulevard; $2,675 in cash from the Lono God of Peace jewelry store on Kalakaua Avenue; and $651 from Lucky Brand clothing store on Kalakaua Avenue.

In addition to 70 months in prison, Judge Kobayashi also sentenced De La Rosa to a three-year term of supervised release and ordered that he pay $4,133 in restitution to the victims.

The robberies were investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Honolulu Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Nammar.
