(RNN) - Chris Brown can't seem to sing or dance his way out of trouble. He's now defending himself against a hit-and-run accusation.
The Los Angeles city attorney's office charged Brown in an alleged hit-and-run, which he denies, as well as driving without a valid license, according to multiple media reports. His arraignment is set for July 15.
The charges stem from an incident on May 21, where Brown allegedly hit another car, refused to give his driver's license number and then left the scene.
Brown faces a maximum punishment of up to a year in jail and $1,000 fine for each offense.
According to E!, these new charges have prompted the city and district attorney to take note of any possible probation violations stemming from the 2009 case where Brown pleaded guilty to beating his then-girlfriend, Rihanna.
Meanwhile, Brown took to Twitter to vent in the wake of the charges.
"It's not a hit-and-run if you get out the car, and exchange information. This is really ridiculous," Brown wrote on Twitter.
Brown said he has a valid driver's license and that he gave the woman the right info.
"She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown, when I followed the proper procedures," Brown tweeted.
"My lawyers will be contacting you. I will not stand for this bullying and yellow journalism!" tweeted Brown. "My profile picture is the picture I took of the person's car after 'the hit-and-run.' No damage, just a dirty car. Once again, I gotta clear my name."
