KAAAWA,OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A hiker who was rescued after falling 300 feet Saturday from a trail in the Koolau Mountains has died.
Fire officials say crews were called to the Puu Manamana Trail above Kaaawa around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. "A 23-year-old female had fallen off of the trail, approximately 300 feet, down a sheer cliff and had come to rest at a 60 degree angle alongside the hillside there," said Honolulu Fire Capt. Chris Ah Mook Sang.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office has identified the woman as 23-year-old Elizabeth Tarpey of Kapolei.
Fire crews airlifted Tarpey to Swanzy Beach Park after locating her on the side of the mountain.
She was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with injuries to her lower extremities and back. She died at Queen's Sunday.
