PALOLO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than a dozen school children were apparently affected by pepper spray at Palolo Valley District Park Friday morning. Paramedics transported 15 students to nearby hospitals shortly after 9 a.m.
According to Honolulu Police, officers were giving a presentation to a group of Summer Fun students inside a gym when an officer noticed the children rubbing their eyes and coughing. The students were immediately evacuated from the gym and treated by paramedics.
With the children outside, officers located the pepper spray in the bleachers and later determined that one of the students had triggered it. Police say the pepper spray does not belong to the department. A parent who wants to remain anonymous tells Hawaii News Now that a child had found the can on the ground.
No arrests were made, and an investigation is underway.
