Courageous cancer patient's emotional homecoming

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A courageous young woman is back in Hawaii after Doctors in Mexico and on the Mainland said there's nothing more they can do to cure her Cancer.

Family and friends waited anxiously for the plane bringing Jesslyn Bogard back home to Hawaii. As her charter plane landed, they tried to collect themselves and wipe their tears away to give her a hero's homecoming.

The jet only had room for Jesslyn's medical team and fiance. Her parents saw her off, then watched late last night via Skype. Her brother broke down as he saw his sister in pain on the plane.

Although she was homesick, this is not the homecoming Jesslyn envisioned when she left for alternative cancer treatment in Mexico four months ago.

Family documented her brave battle against stage three Skin Cancer in a blog. Covering the highs-- like raising the funds to get treatment not covered by insurance to attack the cancer crippling her body-- to celebrating her 23rd birthday.

But, there are many more lows, the last ounce of hope dashed when doctors told Jesslyn she may not live to see 24. That there was no other option but to come home, and surround herself with loved ones.

"She wanted to come home. If that makes her happy that's what we're hoping for" says Renee Kudlich, who held several fund raisers for Jesslyn with her motorcycle club, Waipahu HOGS. "Backing up the ambulance to the hangar and seeing all these people welcome her was extremely touching for her."

Though she's in constant pain, Jesslyn put on a brave face, as she waved to family and friends from a gurney, before heading to the hospital.

Before the doors to her ambulance closed, her brother made a promise "we'll come see you at the hospital okay."

Jesslyn's parents Joyce and Jesse are now by her side at Kapiolani Medical Center. They tell us she's peaceful and looking forward to getting out of the hospital to be in her own bed... with home care.

We'll keep following Jesslyn's courageous Cancer fight and you can too on her blog,
