Sentencing in Waikiki gas station credit scheme

HONOLULU (AP) - A man extradited to Hawaii from California has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in stealing credit card information at Waikiki gas stations.

Vardan Kagramany was sentenced in Honolulu Monday. A jury in February convicted the 39-year-old of identity theft.

He and co-defendant Akop Changryan must also pay more than $157,000 in restitution to six Hawaii financial institutions. Prosecutors say they installed skimming devices at four gas stations and took credit card and debit card information from nearly 200 accounts.

Changryan's defense attorney asked that his sentencing be postponed to next week.

They were extradited to Hawaii from California, where they faced similar charges. A spokesman for the Honolulu prosecutor's office says they belong to an Armenian organized crime network.
