San Francisco-bound flight returns to Honolulu after mechanical issue

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A United Airlines flight that departed Honolulu for San Francisco at around midnight on Sunday evening returned to Hawaii less than two hours later after because of a mechanical problem, according to an airport official.

An airport spokesperson says that United Airlines flight 12 suffered from an electrical problem in the galley and returned to Honolulu at around 1:45 a.m.

A graphic from the air traffic tracking website FlightAware shows the plane on course for San Francisco before turning around.

It was not immediately known whether the passengers would be loaded onto another plane, or if they would be able to reboard.
