Fire critically injures man, damages Kaanapali home

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) - Maui Fire Department officials say a man was injured in a home fire in Kaanapali.

The 84-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Fire crews responded to Kaanapali Royale, a three-story residential complex, after other residents reported the fire.

The fire was confined to one unit and the injured man was found inside.

Fire officials say the cause likely was accidental.

Damage to the 1,800-square foot home was estimated at $180,000.
