Foodland scraps plan for Hawaii Kai store

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Plans to turn Hawaii Kai's 'great lawn' into a shopping center have been scrapped after push back from residents.

Honolulu city council member Stanley Chang says he's been told the landowner, Kamehameha schools, is suspending the project.

Potentially welcome news for neighbors who didn't want to lose one of the area's last parcels of preservation land.

A news conference is scheduled for Thursday morning.
