HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Crews working on Kapiolani Blvd. accidentally struck a pipe connected to a fire hydrant, sending water everywhere and forcing the busy road to be shut down.

The break occurred Wednesday morning on the makai side of Kapiolani Blvd. at Cooke Street near the BMW dealership. Police originally closed Kapiolani and Cooke in both directions as crews with the Board of Water Supply worked to fix the break. The west bound lanes have since reopened.

Officials with BWS describe the incident as a "damaged hydrant lateral" and say no one has lost water service.

Hawaii News Now has a crew at the scene and will bring you more details as soon as they become available.
