WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) - State and Maui county officials say West Maui's only boat launch ramp will have to be closed two months for repairs.
The Maui News (http://bit.ly/15HlnHP) reports the concrete ramp and two loading docks have degraded and replacement will cost $892,000.
Officials met Tuesday with commercial operators and fishermen to discuss when to close the ramp.
Department of Land and Natural Resources boating engineer Eric Yuasa says he can't guarantee that the facility can continue operating for another six months or even two months.
State officials originally scheduled repairs for January and February. Some users say they prefer a shutdown in October and November.
Yuasa says state officials and the building contractor will discuss timelines and a follow-up public meeting on the ramp is tentatively set for June 18.
