Sears Ala Moana closes its doors for good

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Sears store at Ala Moana is closing its doors for good Sunday.

A liquidation sale has been going on for some time now. Very little products and few store fixtures remained inside for bargain hunters to grab during its last set of business hours.

Many stopped by just to see what was left.

The retail space being vacated by Sears in the Ala Moana Shopping Center will be replaced by a Bloomingdale's department store, according to a statement released by General Growth Properties, the mall's owner, on Friday.

GGP says it plans to reinvent the entire ewa side of the shopping center. Of 650,000 square feet of space, Bloomingdale's will take 167,000 square feet on three floors, allowing plenty of room for boutique tenants at the same end.

Bloomingdales is expected to open in the Fall of 2015.

The only Sears on Kauai at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center will also close at the end of July.
