Cherokee County authorities are investigating a fatal house fire Friday night.
It happened just before 7:30 on County Road 3302 outside of Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Fire Department, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, and volunteer departments from North Cherokee and Earle's Chapel all responded to this fire, that consumed a home.
Authorities say one man died in this fire, but no details have been released on that person's identity.
Captain Ted Hunt with the Jacksonville Fire Department tells KLTV 7 that the deceased man was the only person inside. When fire crews arrived, they were told the man was in the bedroom, where the fire was not burning. They made entry, but found that the man was actually in the living room, where the home was burning.
Crews were unable to get to the man.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The house is a total loss.
